Snail mail is making a comeback...slowly HA!
If you're looking for a fun activity to get some fun loving crafty people together why not start making handmade greeting cards or letters?! I hosted a crafty happy hour this weekend at MeatMarket in Brooklyn NY- what a blast! Who knew making cards would make so many people happy at once? With a bonus prize of making the recipient happy when they open it!
How to throw a Crafty Party in 5 easy steps!
Step One: Lock down a theme for your crafty get-together
It certainly doesn't have to be Marshal Law on the theme but something to help coral everyones wandering ideas.. It can be an upcoming holiday, someone's birthday, an animal... anything works!
Step Two: Pick a space!
If you're thinking of only inviting friends your living or dining room could work, if you're thinking of branching out and inviting online friends from a Etsy group or something of the sort pick a public space like a cafe or a slower night at a local bar. If a public spot is what you're aiming for ALWAYS touch base with the location's manager and/or owner. You wouldn't want a craft army showing up at your place unannounced would you?? Show the 'venue' (for lack of better words) the same love and consideration and chat about it before you send that email to your crafty buddies.
Step 3: Alert the Masses!!
Send out a message to anyone you think would be interested. Will if be invite only or can they bring a friend? Will it also be a potluck or should you plan for a non-traditional eating time? (You never wanna craft or shop on an empty belly.) If your having it at a public space or business that offers food, include that in your message so people know weather or not to bring food/drink money or if they should provide their own snacks! Don't forget to include the best way for people to contact you on the day of the event incase they need you!
Step 4: Gather your supplies/tools.
Will YOU be providing all the supplies/tools for this crafty shindig or will your guests bring their own? This is something that should be included in your message to the crafters. If you are providing everything, a donation bucket in the center of the table is totally kosher. Don't be shy about asking others to contribute, thats the way the world goes 'round! People will understand and if they don't then, well.. umm i dunno what to tell ya. Maybe it's time to hang out with another crafty circle that's a little more understanding and likes to share :)
Step 5: LETS HAVE A PARTY!
It usually takes me about an hour and a half to set up a crafty party for about 10 people, but thats me and I'm a perfectionist of sorts. It also takes me forever to do anything. Take in to account what you have to do and how well you manage time. Then add about 30 minutes to your estimation. It's always better to have more time rather than be stressed and unprepared. If you're having your event at a space you don't own, let the owners know you'll be coming by early to set up so they aren't surprised. Once your all set, take a deep breath and then- CRAFT! Have fun!
And thats how a crafty party happens folks!
So now ya know! When's the party?! :)
